We are extremely honoured to be shortlisted for the ‘Training Academy of the Year’ at this year’s Barber Awards. What better excuse for an annual review than an award nomination bestowed upon us precisely for those endeavours?
Just 365 short days ago, we had recently moved into our new academy (now our old academy) and hosted seminars in Russia for the second time – unbeknownst to us, future trips would be an integral part of our year.
I’ve tried to keep it brief but hopefully it will help justify our nomination & possibly even secure your vote!
The Sid Sottung Academy has expanded quite notably over the past year– both in premise & personnel. We have recently renovated & occupied a new two-storey building & our team has grown to four members.
The greater capacity allows us to educate even more future clipper-wielding barbers. It is quite surreal to consider individuals have travelled from as far afield as America, Australia, Canada, Italy & Singapore to study with us.
From Russia, With Love
Teaching trips to Russia, particular to Moscow’s Simushka Academy, are never few & far between. We’re extremely proud to be at the forefront of the Russian barbering movement (without sounding too vainglorious). We recently spoke in more detail of assisting Russia in developing its own barbering culture – following decades of unisex dominance – in an article published in the Traditional Barber Journal.
Our work has garnered quite a lot of media interest; we have featured in around 20 Russian magazines, guested on radio stations & appeared on Russia’s most popular talk show. I wouldn’t say I’ve quite achieved the dizzying, transient heights of celebrity – after all, nobody speaks a word of the Queen’s & understands a word I have to say.
Emissary for the masculine (brands)
Being asked to become a brand ambassador for a company is always an honour. We’ve been fortunate enough to represent Lock Stock & Barrel, Bona Fide Pomade & The Bluebeards Revenge. It is particularly satisfying as these are brands we have long admired & used – it removes any sense of forced obligation.
